Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Game provides plenty of good reinforcement to develop an important skill that creates difficulty for many students.
  • Games are short and familiar even if fractions feel "foreign" which will provide comfort for many students.

Considerations

  • While students will find this game to be more fun than worksheets, students will still perceive this game as more work than a typical game.

Mindprint Expert Review

Match it up! is so simple yet such an effective way to teach or reinforce conversion and comparison of simple fractions, decimals and percents. The game includes 52 cards and directions for three different multi-player games similar to Go Fish, Uno and War. Cards are one of four colors and have either a fraction, percent, decimal or partially shaded shape. Students will play familiar games with the twist of converting or comparing numbers less than one. The cards are easy to read and games are not based on speed, so students still developing comfort with fractions will have time to think through their options and effectively compete against more advanced students. Developing fluency with fractions, decimals and percents can be a great challenge for many students and this game provides great practice in a relatively fun way.
