Mindprint Expert Review

ABCya can be a fun website for children in grades K-5 who will enjoy games and puzzles to practice what they learned in school. The site is organized by grade level where students can choose from 6-12 language arts and 6-26 math games depending on the grade. Games vary in quality and fun but are all age appropriate. For example, in language arts there is a talking storybook for first graders and word search, puzzle and a carnival balloon toss game for third through fifth graders. For students who enjoy competitive games, there are a variety in the math sections including arcade style games like PAC-MAN and a multi-player race car game. The directions for each game are generally brief and have audio, but could be a bit confusing for children using independently, particularly those that tend to have difficulty following directions. Many of the games require good reflexes or quick processing speed, and most assume understanding of previously learned school concepts. Overall, the site provides a variety of enjoyable, educational reinforcement, but parents will need to supervise if they want to be sure their child is selecting good fit games that will actually enhance and reinforce their learning.
