Pros

  • Students can take as long as they need to think through each strategic move.
  • The game requires no reading but a high degree of visual reasoning.

Considerations

  • The game is slow-paced and requires approximately 30 minutes to play.
  • The game lacks a high engagement factor and may not be compelling for many students.

Mindprint Expert Review

Hey Froggy! is a slow-paced visual strategy game for two to four players that develops analytical reasoning skills. Players take turns picking a colored frog to move, rolling the die, moving the frog, and hoping that the resulting combination of frogs matches one or more combinations of the cards in the player's hand. Even most adults will need a practice round or two to fully grasp the rules and understand the strategy required to be successful. Players will need to be able to scan the board and their cards and consider the most probable outcomes based on a roll of a die. While even non-readers could play this game, it requires a deceptive level of thoughtfulness and younger students could react by feeling overwhelmed or bored. Hey Froggy! can develop good visual reasoning skills, but it lacks the degree of excitement many students will need to put in the sustained mental energy to play this game competitively and enjoy it.
