Mindprint Expert Review

This is a reasonable, free app for high school students and older to study over 5,000 exam vocabulary words, but it will be most appropriate for independent learners. The app has no tutorial or instructions, and simply opens with three choices: Learn, Test and Revise. The Learn mode displays only one word at a time, its meaning part of speech, synonyms, possibly an antonym, example sentences, and etymology. There is an abundance of features where the most useful include links to look up the word in five different online dictionaries, audio pronunciation, sharing options, and flagging words. Students choose if they would like to study all words or choose from starred words or the “failure list”. There is a “flashcard” option but all choices for study present the original word description page from the Learn mode. There are two testing options, multiple-choice or matching, where the correct answers and report are displayed immediately after completing the test. Users might appreciate that they are able to check their test answers and link to the definition pages after the multiple choice test. Overall, there is nothing special about this app that helps students remember the words or is particularly engaging, but it has a clean interface and offers good practice for students who are self-motivated.
