TwoDots is a simple, enjoyable puzzle game that requires no reading, has no timer, and develops flexible thinking, planning, and visual reasoning skills. The animations on the level screen are bright and cute, and the game boards are bright yet simple. The goal is to use as few moves as possible to connect adjacent dots of the same color to achieve the target objective. For example, connect 30 red dots, 30 blue dots, and 30 yellow dots in 20 moves. Players must look for patterns in the colored dots, keep track of their moves, and anticipate the chain reaction of certain moves. If they are successful, they progress to the next level. Players have five lives before they must pay for additional lives or wait 20 minutes for a re-fill. This wait time can be a helpful way to teach children self-control, but it can also cause frustration and/or feel like a continuous upsell. The encouragement to compete on Facebook may make self-control even harder. Overall, this popular, simple game can effectively develop cognitive skills provided it does not become an addicting emotional distraction.
