Mindprint Expert Review

Math 42 is a superb calculator for middle and high school students to check their math work with step-by-step answers, but adults want to be sure that students are not using this app to replace doing work independently. Students can type in almost any problem and view partial or entire solutions depending on where they need help or a check. They can see a graph of the solution as well. The navigation is straight-forward, and students can save the problems they created and email solutions. Students have the option to practice multiple choice problems untimed and view the solutions immediately, or quiz themselves and see percent correct and time spent. Less confident or anxious students may not want to take the quizzes, since they see "your answer was wrong" with a red x when they make a mistake. The app does not have an embedded scratch pad, so most students should be expected to use paper and pencil while using this app, unless they are simply checking their previously completed work. Overall, a very helpful tool when used in the spirit for which it was intended.
