Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • This game has high-quality materials, and the rocks can be a great starter for a rock collection.
  • This game uses a familiar game concept to teach new, interesting information.
  • Students can improve their reading and comprehension skills as well as their ability to spot visual differences.

Considerations

  • Students with weaker reading skills may be uncomfortable when it is their turn to pick a card and read it aloud.
  • Students with weaker visual tracking/scanning abilities may need help spotting some of the more subtle differences while scanning so many pictures.

Mindprint Expert Review

Rock On is a fun bingo-style game that introduces and reinforces geology concepts. Each player has a "Player Card" with pictures of different rocks. Players take turns drawing "Rock Call Cards" from a pile. Players compare the images on the cards with the actual specimens included with the game. When players have a match, they mark it with a beautifully-polished stone. Each Call Card has factual information about the specimen: rock or mineral, uses, and where found in nature. While reading is important for learning, adults can play along and help weaker readers to develop their skills. Weaker readers can still be successful, as the key part of the game is successfully comparing the specimens to the pictures on the cards. All children can enjoy this game, and it will be particularly appealing to those who enjoy nature and trivia.
