Scrabble Slam is an enjoyable fast-paced word game that can improve early spelling and fast thinking. The game includes 55 easy-to-read letter cards, and begins with one player selecting any four-letter word and spelling it out from the deck of cards. The remaining 51 cards are evenly distributed among the players. Play is simultaneous as players race to place down cards in their hand to change the word one letter at a time. For example, if the game began with F-A-C-E any player with an R could shout out and change the word to R-A-C-E, and then anyone with a T could shout out and change the word to R-A-T-E. Play continues in this fashion until one player is out of cards. Students will improve their confidence spelling four-letter words, and parents can use the game as an opportunity to explain new vocabulary, reiterate spelling rules, and reinforce sounds. Parents can choose to slow the pace of the game for children who have slower speed or simply need more time to recognize words. Scrabble Slam is an easy, quick, and fun game that can be an effective teaching tool when tailored to a child's specific needs.
