Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Customizations enable this to be an efficient study tool for self-directed students with strong self-awareness.
  • Students can easily view detailed results from every quiz so they know where to focus.
  • App includes a helpful 17-page guide on test-taking strategies.

Considerations

  • Students could select the wrong customization options and not focus on areas where they need the most help.
  • Solutions are helpful but may be insufficient for struggling students.
  • All studying is via quizzes, without a learning mode for vocabulary, grammar rules, or math problem types.

Mindprint Expert Review

SAT Exam Prep can be an effective SAT study option for a well-organized, independent student who will learn best through repeated practice questions. The app includes 375 practice questions in three SAT sections of mathematics, critical reading, and writing. Students create quizzes and learn from their answers. Students customize a quiz to include from 5 to 100 questions, the sections to include, to display the countdown timer, and whether to see answers as they go or only at the end. At the end of the quiz, students can see how they performed in each section and by question. The answer explanations will be sufficient for students with a reasonable grasp of the material, but they may be inadequate for struggling students. The need to scroll or flip between screens for some questions could add an unnecessary challenge for students, especially those who have weaker working memory. Students will also need to have scrap paper since there is no built-in scratch pad for math problems. Overall, the customizations make this a good choice for self-directed students who know what they need to do to improve, but this app could be inefficient and ineffective for students with weaker study skills who need more guided instruction.

The Science Behind Mobile Learning:
Overloading your brain with too much information at once is a common study mistake. Research has shown that smaller, more frequent study sessions are the key to knowledge retention. In other words, taking short quizzes on the go is a much more effective means of exam preparation than reading page after page in a textbook. Apps offer the benefit of interaction, which means you’re far more likely to remember a concept you engage with rather than one you’ve only read about.
