Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Provides fun, academically appropriate practice for children in the target age range.
  • There is no timer and many games allow students to guess until they answer correctly.
  • Every game has an on-screen glossary which defines key grammar terms with definitions and illustrations.

Considerations

  • Students who have difficulty following directions may need adult support with the directions.
  • Students cannot save work or receive a score, so adults will have difficulty tracking progress and identifying problems.
  • Some of the games do not provide correct answer choices which limits the student's ability to learn from mistakes.

Mindprint Expert Review

This website offers 12 fun games to practice 3-5th grade grammar rules but it’s educational benefit is questionable without adult support. The site uses unsophisticated graphics and animated games to practice grammar rules appropriate for the age range. Each game is unique and students will enjoy Noun Dunk ( player keeps shooting the basketball into the net until it is identified as a proper or common noun or not a noun), a race car game, a tic-tac-toe game, a virtual board game, etc. Adults will appreciate the on-screen glossary which defines and illustrates the key grammar terms necessary to play each game. There is no timer and most games are brief and provide correct answer choices. However, some of the games (e.g. Sentence Sort) do not provide correct answer choices, use tiny font and limited directions. Students do not register or receive a score after games so there is no way for adults to track progress or identify problem areas. Nonetheless, this is a good site to practice grammar lessons although adults will need to supervise play to ensure academic benefit.
