Use Sticky Note Reminders

If your student is forgetful or disorganized

Teach It!

  1. Objective: Students will use sticky notes to remember their responsibilities.
  2. Teacher Takeaways: Encourage students to carry sticky notes in their backpacks and folders. They can be used to help them remember just about anything including taking their sports gear on game day or remembering to bring a specific part of a homework assignment.

*students* Guide: Sticky Note Reminders

  1. Use one note for each task. Once you finish the task, remove the note.
  2. Include the details so you don't forget or need to think "what else?"
  3. Use different colors for different types of tasks if it will help you.
  4. Put notes where you can see them and where you need to take action. For example, a note to remember lunch money or sports gear might go next to the door where you will see it on your way out.
  5. If the sticky notes tend to accidentally fall off and get lost, tape may be a better option.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

Students develop organization and skills at varying ages, and these skills aren't fully developed until early adulthood. While students need to learn to be self-sufficient, parents should be available to give a child appropriate support along the way. Sticky notes enable parents to give a reminder, but they ultimately give the student responsibility for following through on the task.
