Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Requires more planning than traditional rummy since players must be flexible in trying to achieve 12 different hands.
  • Cards games can be a great way to make children comfortable with basic numeracy and flexible thinking.
  • If students keep score, they can have some good practice with multi-digit addition.

Considerations

  • Children with smaller hands may have difficulty holding all the cards since play begins with 12 cards and players may accumulate more cards.
  • Games can be quite long, even for children without attention weaknesses.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is an enjoyable, more complex version of rummy for those who enjoy competitive card games. The game uses the same basic concepts of runs and sets, but in a fashion similar to Yahtzee(c), players collect points depending on the card numbers and try to be the first to complete 12 different hands (two 5-card sets, one 8-card run, etc.). There are a few extra rules, but card players will quickly follow along. Parents who want their children to work on math skills can encourage a child to keep her own score or play scorekeeper for everyone. This game is a fun twist on traditional rummy, but it is longer and adds unnecessary complexity for students who are not typically inclined to play cards.
