Mindprint Expert Review

Risk is a challenging, strategic board game for two to six players which can be engaging and rewarding for those willing to invest hours in the game. Success requires using a variety of skills including planning, strategy, cooperation, and attention. Students also will develop their world geography knowledge. Playing the game does not require much reading but the instructions may be confusing, so adult support is recommended to get started. The board is a map of the Earth divided into 42 territories with the object to control all the territories on the board. Players take turns rolling attack and defense dice and using territory cards to attack and control enemy armies across borders. For each turn, players must make strategic decisions about where to place their troops, and with a combination of luck and strategy, they will get the troops and cards they need. Players will need to carefully track opponents' moves which requires focus and attention to detail. Reference cards are helpful to guide new players as they explain what to do on a turn. This game is not for everyone as it takes commitment to playing for hours and thoughtful planning for both offensive and defensive strategies. However, Risk will be a worthwhile investment for those who like strategic games.
