xSolve - Equation Solver

Mindprint Rating

Study Skills & Tools High School & Up iOS App

Mindprint Expert Review

  • Once students grow comfortable with the navigation, it is simple to use.
  • Students can easily find solutions to complex equations.

  • The app does not provide any instruction, nor the process for the solution.
  • Students cannot save their work.
  • The navigation is confusing.

Mindprint Expert Review

This app is purely an algebraic problem solving tool and should be used by students only to check their work. It also can be very helpful for working adults or students in advanced math classes who have mastered the skill and are looking for an algebraic problem solver for efficiency in their work. The navigation is not straight-forward, but students who understand equations will be able to figure out how to use it with a little bit of trial. Students can choose to solve a system of multi-variable equations or quadratic equations. They can enter both real or imaginary coefficients. Once they have entered the equation they simply hit solve to see the answer. There is no stepwise display of the solution, just an answer, so the app has no instructional value. Students cannot store previously solved equations. Students allowed to use an electronic tool to check their work might find this a helpful tool, but parents should be certain students are not using it to avoid learning how to solve on their own.
