Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Students will enjoy the animations, even if they are unfamiliar with the show.
  • All the games are quick and easy to learn.
  • Students uncomfortable with the pace can play in practice mode.

Considerations

  • There is no option to track progress overall or by specific type of mistake.
  • The games move at a very quick pace, have an on-screen timer in play mode, and give buzzes and red Xs for incorrect answers.
  • There is no explanation of mistakes for students to understand and improve.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a cute app based on the Canadian show that can help elementary students practice their reading and early spelling. The app includes five cutely animated mini-games that have students match a picture with the correct word, choose a letter to complete the word spelling, select the correct word spelling, identify verbs, and read and match a sentence to the picture with the same meaning. The games are all quick, which helps keep them fun but might be difficult for younger students or those with anxiety or slower processing speed. These students can play in the practice mode without a timer, but they will not receive the positive feedback and earn points to move to subsequent levels. The games do not explain incorrect answers, just mark them with a red X, so students might not learn as much as they could. In addition, the voice-over is difficult to understand, but all the directions are also given in text for students who can read. Overall, a cute practice app that students should enjoy playing and will give good reinforcement of skills they need to master.
