Healthy Eating to Improve Emotional and Physical Well Being

All students, particularly those who are prone to anxiety and emotional issues

How To Apply It!

  1. While everyone knows they should eat healthier, not everyone realizes that there is plenty of evidence that healthy eating has an enormous, positive impact on your learning.
  2. Focus on incorporating fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates and lean proteins into meals and snack time.
  3. Drink lots of water, since good hydration is equally important for brain function. Drinking enough water has been shown to help reduce anxiety and increase memory functions. Remember that water is a much healthier option than juice or soda.
  4. Try not to rely on junk food when hungry. Chronic consumption of junk food can negatively affect memory, energy level and attention.
  5. Be careful with caffeine. While studies show that caffeine can boost attentiveness and memory in the short-term, it can leave you feeling groggy and affect your sleep which can have overall negative effects.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

Good eating enables us to think more critically and improves memory and retention. It also has a positive impact on sleep, which has known benefits on learning. You can read more about why healthy eating matters in our Free Resources section.
