Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The writing prompts go beyond the question or topic, but include examples and guiding questions to support the writer.
  • The community aspect of this site might appeal to students who enjoy connecting with others on social media platforms with the specific focus on writing.
  • Site provides students an opportunity to receive feedback beyond their in-person network.

Considerations

  • Students who enter the competitions will receive adult feedback on their writing, but the site does not have any built-in instruction on writing.
  • The writing prompts go into depth to inspire deeper thought, but for students who struggle with structure or organization of content, this will not serve as the tool to support that.

Mindprint Expert Review

Write the World is an online writing community for high school students, providing an engaging platform that can effectively motivate students to develop and cultivate a love for writing and expression. Write the World is set up like other social media platforms where students have a profile and follow and connect with peers to share work. The writing prompt section enables students to choose topics to inspire their writing. The prompts include not only a topic question, but also examples, guiding ideas and other supports to inspire thoughtful response and critical thinking. The prompts are also paired with attractive photographs for additional inspiration. Students can join groups of students with similar interests. They also can receive peer feedback on their writing and review the work of their peers. The site guides students on how to write and give good feedback to peers. Students can enter competitions and receive feedback from authors, writing teachers and other experts. These competitions give students an extra motivation and the chance to strengthen their writing and editing skills, however, beyond that, the site does not monitor student progress. Write the World offers a positive, online community that emphasizes the value of developing a voice through writing. The site will appeal to students who enjoy the community aspect of social media platforms and who are interested in writing. It is a great platform for students who might be more reluctant to share and gain feedback on their writing from their in-person friends or family members.
