Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Passages and questions are well written in an area that will interest sports enthusiasts.
  • The layout makes it easy for students to read and scroll while answering questions.
  • Students are clearly shown why an answer was correct or incorrect.

Considerations

  • App does not enable students to highlight as they read or look up unfamiliar vocabulary, even after they finish.
  • The overall design might encourage students to look for answers rather than reading the passage first.
  • Educators might question overall effectiveness of digital versus print for reading comprehension.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is an excellent reading comprehension practice app with ten passages exclusives focused on sports topics, including both male and female athletes. Adults can password protect results and track the progress of as many students as they want. There are ten passages with twelve, untimed questions for each. The left half of the screen is the passage which a student can easily scroll at any time. The right half has a single multiple choice question at a time. After a student answers the question, the correct part of the passage is always highlighted to reinforce or explain why that answer was correct. After completing the twelve multiple choice questions, the results can be reviewed both overall and by answer showing both the correct answer and the student's choice so an adult can follow up as appropriate. Overall, this app gives very good reading comprehension practice on topics that are of interest children, so adults can understand a student's true capability if the student is engaged in the reading.
