Prep for Teacher Review Sessions

If your student doesn't come prepared with questions for a review session

Teach It!

  1. Objective: Students will come prepared for teacher review sessions, so they can use the session to confirm what they know well and what they still need to learn.
  2. Instruction and Practice: Offer guidelines (next slide) to students to help them come to test review sessions already prepared with questions and an idea of what they will need to work on.

*students* Guide: Prepare For Test Review Sessions

  1. Review the chapters and your class notes. Highlight main points.
  2. Create a quick preliminary outline which you can revise or add to during the review session.
  3. Prepare a list of questions to bring with you.
  4. For areas you feel need work, ask the teacher to recommend specific practice questions to take home at the end of the session.
  5. Find a classmate to share notes with after the review session to ensure you didn't miss anything important.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

Review sessions can be a great opportunity to study and confirm what you know and where you still need help or practice. Unfortunately, many students come to review sessions hoping for the teacher to re-teach lessons and then find that they are having difficulty following along or do not benefit much.
