Mindprint Expert Review

This is a superb free site designed for teachers to find age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction reading materials by topic of interest. It could also be used by families looking for supplemental reading materials. Texts are organized by grade level and theme. Themes are relevant and age appropriate, ranging from social justice to morality to technology. There are multiple genres for each theme in each grade level that include poetry, short stories, and excerpts from longer texts. The texts are entirely free to download and are all followed by comprehension and discussion questions. Downloaded texts do not display grade levels, making this a great option when looking for students whose comprehension is below grade level. Each text is preceded by a short biography of the author to help readers put the text in context. Challenging vocabulary words are footnoted and definitions are provided at the bottom of the page. This is an overall fantastic site to find reading options that will interest students while supporting their learning with vocabulary and follow-up questions.
