Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The overall design is simple and inviting.
  • There are six levels of difficulty, including one specifically for kids.
  • Students who play this game will develop speed and flexibility with basic sums.

Considerations

  • The design can feel stressful with a running timer and numbers shaking and changing colors as time runs out. It will be particularly difficult for students with slower speed, trouble scanning, or who are not fluent in their addition facts.
  • There is no option to view mistakes or successful combinations.
  • Games can go on too long if students are successful.

Mindprint Expert Review

Greg is a fast-pace math addition app that can be a good tool for strong math students to improve their speed and flexibility with numbers, but it could easily make other students feel anxious or overwhelmed. Players begin with a 4x4 grid of easy-to-read numbers. They tap any combination of numbers to equal the target sum, at which point a new target sum appears and they repeat the process. Players continue in this fashion, trying to scan and find the right combinations before time runs out and the game is over. As they are successful players will progress to higher levels, achieve higher scores, and earn power-ups to use during game play. As time runs out the numbers begin to shake, and students are buzzed for incorrect combinations. There are six levels of difficulty but the primary difference is the speed of play. Overall, this app can effectively build fast-paced numeracy skills, but it could leave students feeling uncomfortable and unsuccessful if this is not their area of strength.
