Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The slower pace and unlimited moves enable students to use flexible thinking to solve puzzles without feeling the pressure of time or limited chances.
  • The puzzles are relatively easy to scan and understand compared to similar-style visual puzzles.
  • The puzzles provide a great visual challenge.

Considerations

  • The app has some glitches which will require students to exercise some patience.
  • Some students may find the puzzles too repetitive in style.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a good puzzle app that requires no reading but relies on logic and visual reasoning. Students begin with a 7x7 grid. They must identify where the six enemy ships are hidden in the water, similar to the concept of Battleship(TM). Ships can occupy up to three squares, and each row has a number indicating the number of occupied squares. Students must deduce where all the ships are located to solve the puzzle. Students can take as long as they need to solve the puzzle, undo moves as often as needed, and receive up to three hints per puzzle. Additional hints are a paid upgrade. Students who do not typically enjoy visual puzzles may not love the game, but even they should be willing to play a round or two at a time and it is overall an easy and effective activity for students to exercise visual thinking. Note that we experienced some glitches in the app recognizing completed puzzles, which prohibited progression until we solved the puzzle again which could frustrate students.
