Mindprint Expert Review
Alpha Omega is a great word puzzle app that combines elements of word unscramble and crossword puzzles. Students move progressively through the puzzles of a few words each that are set up in crossword puzzle format. Each puzzle has a category such as food, places in a city, or animals. The letters are filled in and students must unscramble letters to create words to fit the category. Letters are "locked in" once the word is correct and students are alerted almost immediately if they moved letters incorrectly. They can always restart or undo their moves. Hence the puzzles offer the challenge of figuring out the solution without the frustration of going through a long puzzle only to realize a mistake was made somewhere along the way. While some students may not be immediately attracted to the simple design or another word puzzle, this app offers a good way to develop flexible thinking, working memory and verbal reasoning skills without the typical corresponding frustrations.
