Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The interface is very easy-to-use, enabling students to add pictures, music, text and voice and then save and share their creations.
  • Encourages open-ended creativity in a format that students will truly enjoy.
  • The site has restricted access to internet photos for younger students.

Considerations

  • Drawing tools allow students to highlight as they are speaking but the drawings quickly disappear.
  • The number of features are limited, which might make it less appealing to older students.
  • Calling videos "Puppets" also might discourage older students from using this app even though it would have most of what they need.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a wonderful, easy-to-use app that enables students to narrate a series of pictures and turn it into a video. They could easily use it to explain what they have learned, practice reading aloud, or simply to have open-ended fun. Students begin by selecting photos from their camera roll or using the restricted internet search which gives access to select non-profit sites (e.g. Library of Congress, Metropolitan Museum of Art) or Flickr or Wikimedia Commons. Next, students can add background music from their iTunes library or eight background tunes included. Once students have selected the photos and music, they narrate the images to create their video. They can draw on the pictures or add text as they go. They can also pause or undo the most recent image and re-record. The easy-to-use interface makes this app a great option for all ages, though older students are likely to prefer apps that have more features and unrestricted access to photos. Overall, a great option for students to express their creativity, develop organization and planning skills, and practice speaking.
