Where You Study: Checklist (AB)

If your student is preparing over time for a high stakes test

How To Apply It!

  1. Switching up where you study helps you remember, so while it is important to create a well-organized, quiet space to study, it is sometimes good to study in different places to prepare for a big test.
  2. While it generally might be best for you to work at your desk, it is also beneficial to study on the couch, at the kitchen table, or at the library.
  3. Ask your parents to help you find multiple places to study where you won't be distracted.
  4. This is a good strategy to use when you are studying for a test over multiple days.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

Learning material in different settings allows the brain to make multiple associations with the same material, which leads to more effective encoding/remembering. While it might be difficult to find one quiet place to study, let alone multiple spots, it can be very helpful and effective. The library is almost always a good second option in addition to home.
