Pros

  • A game that offers the opportunity for broad competition for students that really enjoy it.
  • Enables students to practice skills in speed, coordination and spatial perception.
  • Provides an opportunity for a child to work diligently at their own pace and feel a sense of accomplishment as they reach a personal best.

Considerations

  • For some students, the idea of stacking cups up and down will not be sufficiently engaging, even initially.
  • Even interested students could be discouraged early on and lose interest because becoming good requires focus and lots of practice.
  • While the cups are easy to hold and could be a good way to develop visual motor and speed skills for those who need help, those students could get discouraged easily if they are not given the appropriate level of support and encouragement.

Mindprint Expert Review

This game includes 12 stacking cups that students can use to learn competitive speed stacking which can exercise a variety of skills including following directions, processing speed and visual motor coordination. The goal is to stack the cups in groups of 3s, 6s or 12 up and down in the fastest possible time. Students can follow the written directions with pictures or watch videos to learn how to stack efficiently in different combinations. Stacking has its own association and tournaments for those who want to be compete. For other children it can just be a fun hobby that requires visual coordination and perception, focus, and the willingness to practice. Students could get discouraged when the cups fall over and if they do not appreciate that they will need a lot of practice to get as fast as the children on the videos.
