Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The brightly colored board is attractive and feels engaging for all ages.
  • Concurrently draws on higher-order abstract, verbal and flexible thinking skills.
  • Everyone is always playing simultaneously, either guessing or creating the clues.

Considerations

  • Game can feel like a lot of work, with the need to scan the board, interpret the clues and think through all the possibilities.
  • Requires patience and flexible thinking by the clue giver and the guessers to get the answer.
  • While the goal is to accumulate the most points, the game lacks the competitive feel of having a singular objective.

Mindprint Expert Review

Concept is a challenging reasoning game that can be played cooperatively or competitively with many players playing in teams or individually. One person draws a card and must place up to four pawns next to the brightly colored pictures, symbols, and colors on the board to get one of the other players to guess the word on the card. Words are divided into three levels of difficulty, and players should agree in advance on the category of words. The words on the card are very tiny, probably to be sure that they are not mistakenly seen, but they are challenging to read. Both the correct guesser and the clue giver get points and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins. All players are given a page that shows what each symbol on the board represents. For example, the large drop could be water, liquid or drink which the clue giver might combine with nature to make the word lake. The game can take a few rounds to get comfortable scanning the board and thinking flexibly with the symbols, and it can be challenging even with the easiest of words. The game is best played in teams if players vary in age and/or reasoning skills, but the game rules allow for plenty of variation to meet the needs of the group. Overall, a great twist on traditional reasoning games for players who want a new challenge.

Manufacturer Description

A large, green animal from long ago? Must be a dinosaur. Water, cube and cold weather? Has to be an ice cube. A man with a job who rides large brown animals in the United States? Is that a cowboy? In Concept, players team up to place tokens on a board covered in icons, depicting everything from ancient samurai and snails to Leonardo DiCaprio. Points go to the player who can guess the correctly by looking at the various symbols, but in this wild party game, the points are less important than just having a great time!.
