Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The game offers a variety of challenging brain teasers that will challenge complex reasoning skills and flexible thinking.
  • There are added elements of luck which evens the game somewhat for players who might not be as strong at their reasoning skills.
  • The brain fact at the bottom of the card can help students become aware of why they might have made a mistake so they can improve their reasoning skills.

Considerations

  • The questions are challenging and players might feel embarrassed if they cannot solve the puzzles if the group is not supportive.
  • Once a player has seen a card, it would be unfair for them to play that card again in a new game, so the game has limited longevity.
  • The game will offer additional challenges beyound reasoning for players who have difficulties with listening carefully, discomfort reading aloud or weaker visual memory skills for remembering the game board.

Mindprint Expert Review

Brain games "gamifies" visual and word puzzles in a format most similar to the game of Trivial Pursuit (TM), which will be fun for a group who enjoys brain teasers but might feel too taxing for others. The colorful game board is a set of intersecting hexagon tiles representing four categories: logic, language, mind & body and vision. Some other game tiles add elements of chance. Students roll a die and jump through that number adjacent tiles and turn over the tile. Another player reads the top challenge card in the category. If the player answers correctly, he keeps the tile and the next player takes a turn. The first player to collect a tile in all four categories wins the game. The answers are clear and also include an interesting brain science fact about why the answer is correct or why most people might answer incorrectly. The cards are a broad variety of brain puzzles, including identifying what's wrong with a visual picture, listening to a story once and answering questions correctly, unscrambling letters to solve a word puzzle, etc. While the absence of a timer is nice for slower, more deliberate thinkers, there are some head-to-head challenges which require competing against another player and being the first to answer correctly. Also, players might be unwilling to "give up" on a puzzle which could make turns very long. Players should be prepared to read cards clearly aloud to other players and be comfortable making mistakes or not knowing answers in front of a group. The puzzles are challenging and needing to remember the tiles that were previously turned over on the game board adds another load on visual memory. Overall a good option for a group of people who enjoy brain challenges, but not a game for all mixes of students.
