Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • An easy-to-use reference tool for students and adults to use during homework for previously learned material.
  • Includes a comprehensive collection of definitions, reference tables and step-by-step approaches to common problems.
  • The use of bright colors and and manageable size makes this accessible for students.

Considerations

  • Although there are supporting illustrations and diagrams, using the book relies on reading steps of text and familiarity, so students with weaker reading or math skills might require adult support.
  • Glossary terms are organized by chapters and students might not always find the term easily unless they use the index, which could be frustrating for younger children.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a straight-forward and very helpful math dictionary that includes math terms, strategies, formulas and conversion tables for grades 4-9 . There are seven chapters of math topics (numbers, measurement, etc.). Each chapter is a glossary of terms written for students who have learned the concepts but need a refresher. The definitions and explanations are concise and understandable with accompanying pictures and examples. The distinct headings make it easy for students to use on their own, or for adults and students to use together during homework. An additional six chapters include how to teach concepts using manipulatives (particularly useful for students with stronger visual skills), key formulas, measurement conversion tables, and tables and charts (prime numbers through 100, conversion of common fractions to decimals, etc.). There are also 45 pages of quick reference that provides step-by-step guidance on how to solve common problems, such as finding the least common denominator, converting decimals to fractions, and algorithm multiplication. Overall, an excellent resource for math students who need a quick reminder on terminology and methodology.
