Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Covers relevant, authentic topics and even provides colloquial uses.
  • Uses positive feedback and provides incentives like earning badges for posting flashcard sets.
  • The grammar lessons are clear and concise.

Considerations

  • Too many and constant advertisements with moving pictures and links for articles will overwhelm and distract students with visual and attention weaknesses.
  • Audio may go too quickly for beginners.
  • Parents of younger children should be aware that students can find definitions for inappropriate words and flashcard sets for alcoholic beverages and "dating and love".

Mindprint Expert Review

SpanishDict is an excellent, comprehensive resource for all levels of Spanish students, but some students might be overwhelmed with the constant and distracting ads. The site includes a high-quality Spanish/English dictionary with understandable definitions, part of speech, examples, colloquial uses, and audio pronunciation. All words throughout the site have the option for audio pronunciation which uses an authentic voice, though it may speak too quickly for beginners. In the translator, students can enter a complete phrase and receive an accurate translation. There are hundreds of leveled flashcard sets of useful topics, such as clothing (easy) and food verbs (hard). Sets shared publicly can range from 5-100 cards per set, but users should be aware there is no filter for student-made sets which could potentially be inaccurate and may include content inappropriate for younger users (alcoholic beverages, dating and love). Students will find an easy to use flashcard maker feature with several options to customize sets and share publicly. The grammar section clearly and succinctly explains challenging grammar topics. It includes 40-question quizzes for each topic with immediate, helpful corrections and positive reinforcement like “Keep practicing!” This site is a great option for Spanish language learners of all levels to develop their Spanish skills, provided they are not distracted by the constant advertisements.
