Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • An engaging, lively card game that provides a high-level experience of a trading floor.
  • Exercises strategy, planning and attention skills, as students must constantly manage and re-think their hands in a fast-paced game.
  • All players are actively engaged throughout the game.

Considerations

  • Students with auditory processing weaknesses or who become easily distracted in a noisy environment might have difficulty with players calling out simultaneously. The instructions do offer a silent bidding variation.
  • The more players, the more interesting the game becomes but also the louder.
  • Can cause disagreements of who trades with whom, who said what, etc.

Mindprint Expert Review

Pit is a card game for three to eight players modeled after the loud excitement of a commodity exchange of a trading floor. There are as many commodities as there are players. Each player starts with nine cards, and silently decides which commodity to corner, meaning collecting all of that suit. When the "Exchange" opens, players trade cards with opponents by calling out the number of cards they are willing to trade without showing the suit they will give. Only players who shout out the same number are able to trade. The first player to collect all nine cards of the same suit calls out "Corner" and is awarded the number of points on that commodity card. Rounds continue in similar fashion until someone reaches the pre-designated point total. During the game, players are constantly making trade-offs between the probability of getting the nine cards of the same suit, the value of the commodity, and the likelihood of their opponents cornering the market. Pit is an energetic, loud game that gives players a fun sense of how a trading floor operates and how to think about trade-offs with probabilities and point values.

Manufacturer Description

Looking for a sure winner in the hot commodities market? Pit, the fast-paced card game, has been a bullish performer since its introduction way back in 1904. With all the ups and downs, desperate deals, and nonstop action of an actual trading floor, this lively game offers great fun without risking the family fortune. The rules are simple: Deal the cards, scream and trade like crazy, be the first to corner a specific market (nine cards of the same suit), and ring the closing bell. Sounds pretty realistic, doesn't it? Once you've got the basic game mastered, try throwing Bull and Bear cards into the mix--that's when things get really interesting! Pit comes neatly boxed with a set of 74 premium quality cards, a corner board and instructions. There are rules included for a silent bidding version of the game, but jumping up and down, waving wildly, and shouting yourself hoarse is half the fun! Includes 74 premium quality cards, a corner board and rules. For 3 to 8 players.
