Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • A quick and enjoyable hands-on game that exercises visual spatial, visual motor, reasoning, planning and working memory skills.
  • The game is easy to learn, does not require any reading, and should not require a lot of wait time in between turns.
  • The spheres fit together well and are unlikely to fall apart as they might with similar types of structural games.

Considerations

  • Students with fine motor weaknesses might need support taking a piece off the structure, as the pieces fit pretty snugly together and it can be particularly challenging if only one piece needs to be removed.
  • Good for students to exercise visual motor skills, but students with weaker skills will need adult coaching or they might just find this game frustrating.

Mindprint Expert Review

Stratos Spheres is a well-made 3-D version of tic-tac-toe. Two players alternate connecting their color spheres to make four-in-a-row in any dimension, while simultaneously trying to block their opponent. As spheres are being connected to each other, a 3-D structure is being formed which makes the game more hands-on and more engaging for many than tic-tac-toe or even Connect Four. Because four-in-a-row is being achieved in 3-D in any direction, players are exercising spatial perception and visual reasoning skills to plan their moves while anticipating and trying to stop their opponent's moves. The pegs fit nicely into the holes, so it is unlikely the structure will fall apart if handled with normal care. Students with fine motor weaknesses might find it difficult to take the pieces apart if they are switching their move or dissembling after play.

Manufacturer Description

Take four-in-a-row to a whole new dimension with Stratos Spheres! Stratos Spheres loses the 2-D board and lets you build the game - and your logic skills - as you go. To start, add one of your colored spheres to the white neutral sphere and pass it to your opponent. Your opponent then adds a sphere of his/her color. This 2-player game goes back and forth until one player gets four of his/her spheres in a row - in any dimension. With its 3-D construction, Stratos Spheres takes a classic play pattern and adds a dynamic new level of strategy and fun!.
