Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The site is generally easy to use, and students can quickly make their own flashcards with photos or colored text.
  • Students can study with virtual notecards or play bingo, matching or take a multiple choice quiz with the notecard content.
  • Students can find other users' cards by searching on the title of their own textbook.

Considerations

  • The site does not create flashcards from the textbooks, either the student must do it or depend on the accuracy of another user having done it correctly.
  • The matching game has a running on-screen timer, and the bingo game might not allow for sufficient time to answer before the next question appears.
  • Virtual flashcards are best suited for students who easily remember information so this site might not be the best choice for many students.

Mindprint Expert Review

Easy Notecards is a fine site where students and teachers can find, create, study, print and share interactive flashcards. After completing the free registration, users are given a virtual locker to save their own notecard sets along with favorite sets, favorite books and favorite members. Users can search a textbook using the ISBN number to find pre-posted sets or tag their own cards to that title. In creating sets, students will need to enter the information on their own, even if the book is found in the Easy Notecard database. Students can easily upload photos and/or change font and color to enhance their flashcards and make the information more memorable. As students study and progress, they can mark specific cards for further study. In addition to self-assessing with the virtual flashcards, the flashcards can be used to create a multiple choice quiz, matching game, or multi or single player Bingo game. The matching game and Bingo games are time-sensitive, and the quality of the computer-generated multiple choice quizzes is highly dependent on the content of the notecards and might not be particularly helpful. While the site offers the nice feature of enabling a student to find other users' notecards by searching the book title, there is no validation of the accuracy of user-created cards. Virtual notecard sites like Easy Notecards can be a useful study tool for some students, but students who have difficulty remembering information will be better off with real notecards or other multi-modal memorization strategies.
