Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Sporacle may be a fun option for people who enjoy trivia because it offers plenty of challenging quizzes over a wide variety of topics.
  • Teachers and students can create simple, fun quizzes for their classes.

Considerations

  • Constant annoying ads and variety and amount of options may overwhelm some users.
  • Users can easily find quizzes on inappropriate topics.
  • The site is all user-generated content so the quality is generally low and not worth the effort of searching for educational content.

Mindprint Expert Review

Sporcle offers thousands of user-generated timed trivia quizzes categorized into 16 topics including history, entertainment and religion. All quizzes are created by Sporcle users so the site does not guarantee accurate answers and there are no explanations and not always the option to view correct answers. Most quizzes have catchy titles like “Disney Animals” or “Finish the Lyric,” but parents should be aware of easy access to inappropriate quizzes like “Name the movie from the actors who sleep together” and “Countries who watch the most pornography.” The website is free to browse and take quizzes. Registering allows users to share quizzes, receive a ranking, earn badges, and create quizzes of their own. There are quizzes for all interests and levels, however they are organized by name and popularity and so there is a fair amount of trial-and-error to find a quality, appropriate quiz. While this site could be a fun distraction for students with the modest potential to learn something, the greatest educational value might be as a free platform for a teacher to create a quiz for his or her class or for having students experience the thought process of creating a good quiz for their classmates.
