Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • A unique drawing game that challenges visual-spatial skills and helps kids learn to follow simple multi-step directions.
  • The leveled options make it easier to find a challenge that is appropriate and motivating for differing abilities.
  • There is no timer and the option to erase as needed which encourages students to take their time to understand the quest and be accurate. However, if some players take too long, adults might want to consider adding a time limit.

Considerations

  • Adults might need to support students with weaker motor or spatial skills by starting with easier challenges and coaching them on verbal remediation strategies.
  • For younger students or those with weaker working memory or comprehension skills, adults might need to help/repeat the one-sentence instructions at the bottom of the quest card.
  • With only 36 challenges, the game might have limited repeat play.

Mindprint Expert Review

Doodle Quest is a unique drawing game that will help students develop visual-spatial skills and can be fun to play alone or as a multi-player game. Students will enjoy using dry erase markers and transparencies along with the brightly colored aquatic-themed pictures. A game calls for six quests, though players can do as few or as many of the 36 quests as they choose. Play begins by flipping over a quest card and reading the one-sentence instructions which involve drawing to scale based on the picture on the quest card. For example, players might need to draw a line from one side of the card to the other without touching any fish in the way. Players have as much time as needed to draw on their transparencies while looking at the quest card. When all players finish, players take turns placing their transparent doodle sheets on top of the quest card and score or lose points based on how well their drawings matched the cards. There are 36 quests that are leveled so players or groups of players can choose based on their age and ability. If there is a mix of beginner and advanced players, two challenge levels can be played simultaneously. Doodle Quest is a fantastic multi-player game or single player activity to practice spatial and visual skills. And for students with weaknesses in these skills, the game can be used with supporting strategies with the help of an adult.
