Considerations

  • Some of the images might be difficult to discern and the lack of labels, especially for the monuments, could be a missed learning opportunity.

  • Disagreements might arise about who called out a category first and who gets the points.

Mindprint Expert Review

Rally Up! is a fast-paced card game in which players race to match cards with images that belong to the same category. Younger children will recognize and appreciate the 11 categories which include animals, candies, vehicles and monuments. Students who need support can use the reference card to identify the categories, and the game will reinforce categorization skills as players must continue to identify images that belong to the same category. The game relies heavily on processing speed and working memory as players race to be the first to scan the image on each card and identify the category. Depending on the players' ages and ability levels, adults might want to enlarge the reference cards, review each category before play begins or modify the rules if a child has difficulty recalling the category name. In general Rally Up is a good, quick game for that will be enjoyable for most students and offers good practice with processing speed, working memory, and reinforcement of categorization skills.
