Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Relatable theme and attractive tiles for a young age.
  • The limited set of rules for a student to keep in mind makes it a good choice for introducing logic puzzles.

Considerations

  • Since there is not much variety between the puzzles, this activity will be best given one or two at a time rather than extended play.

Mindprint Expert Review

Zoologic is a straightforward logic game in which players have to fill in tiles on a puzzle board within specific rules, involving animals and their favorite foods. The premise behind the rules comes from our accepted understanding of animals and their favorite foods -- no animal can be next to its favorite food or next to its known "rival" on the tile board. (i.e. The dog can't be next to the cat. The mouse can't be next to the cheese.) There are a limited number of categories, so there is not a lot for the student to remember as far as rules. The challenge comes in filling in a preset board games and reasoning through which animal or food tiles can be placed where. There are 60 puzzle boards across five difficulty levels. The beginning boards are very basic, making them good for very young children and for older children to adjust to the rules. This is a good game for parents or teachers to do together with a young child (5 or 6) to teach them how to think through logic puzzles step-by-step and check their work, with an interesting theme for their age. For students a little older, some of the higher levels will engage them perhaps for 1-2 puzzles at a time, but will likely not sustain interest for longer than that since the game does not offer much variety in theme or rules. For these students, one or two puzzles per sitting might be a good way to exercise logic and reasoning skills.

Manufacturer Description

Zoologic is a game of deduction and logic in which the player attempts to fill a puzzle grid with dogs, cats, mice, and their respective favorite foods (bones, fish and cheese). But keep in mind, no animal can be placed beside its traditional rival, nor can it be placed beside its favourite food or chaos will reign!

As the player progresses, new obstacles arise in the form of a raging bull and hungry ants, which turn this thought-provoking puzzle into a peace keeping mission, challenging even for adults! The 60 puzzles are divided into five play levels, allowing players as young as 5 years old to enjoy this game, and keep adults who like logic puzzles coming back for more.
