Pros

  • App has clean interface and uses cute animations.
  • Parents and students can conveniently keep up with classroom announcements as well as monitor behavior through a single interface.
  • Communication can be for the whole class, a sub-group, or confidential between teacher and an individual student or parents.

Considerations

  • Teachers will need to effectively manage student and parent expectations about the frequency of comments and not to over-react to feedback.
  • Could encourage over-monitoring and reporting on students' actions and behavior.

Mindprint Expert Review

Class Dojo is a free service for teachers to communicate more effectively with parents and students, and is an effective tool to motivate student attention and good behavior. Teachers create a virtual classroom, assigning a cute character to each child and providing each student and parent an account. Teachers use Class Dojo to track attendance, record student behavior, instant message parents, and share videos, photos and announcements with individual students and their parents or with the entire class. Parents and students can check the class story (photo, video or message), view student awards or positive feedback, and be alerted when a student "needs work". Teachers, parents and students can message each other through the application. Students earn points from their teacher for good performance and behavior, and teachers determine how to appropriately reward students when they reach a certain number of points. Reports reflect measures of students’ Perseverance, Teamwork, Leadership, Resourcefulness and Curiosity. The app has a clean, colorful interface and can be integrated with smartboards, tablets, phones, iPhones or iPads. This app can be an effective way to provide information on student behavior and progress to parents on a regular basis so teachers, parents and students can be partners in developing a student's classroom habits. Note: This app was originally reviewed for iPad/iPhone. Some differences might apply. Amazon rating: Guidance Suggested
