  1. Objective: This unique approach helps ignite students' interest in science, while expanding working knowledge of everyday science experiences.
  2. Class Activity a) Ask students to brainstorm common phrases that might have scientific origin. Start them off with phrases such as: I got my wires crossed, I'm out of steam, You don't want to blow a fuse. b) Have students research or discuss the scientific basis of the idiom. "What happens in a circuit if you cross wires?" c) Discuss how and why we use the idiom. This key step can engage your students who prefer English to science. What is the connection between the idiom and actually crossing wires in a circuit?
