Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Requires making direct connections between words but also thinking through the many possible associations that could be made.
  • The words will all be familiar to elementary school children, though younger children will not be familiar with all the potential nuances and connections that adults might have.
  • Play format encourages teams to discuss their rationale for different word associations which can help younger students learn as they play.

Considerations

  • The codemaker might find it very challenging to give a good clue word and might feel pressure with everyone listening.
  • A person could dominate the team discussion and cause some players to lose interest.
  • Game depends on both codemakers not "giving away" hints with their body language or facial expressions which could cause disagreements.

Mindprint Expert Review

This excellent verbal reasoning game is designed to be played in two teams but requires a minimum of four players. Teams compete against each other to be the first to identify all of their agents without uncovering the single "assassin" among the 25 cards. Each team has a single codemaster who take turns giving all of their teammates (as many as want to play) single word clues. Clues are intended to get teammates to guess which of the 25 word cards are the team's agents without inadvertently guessing the competing team's agents or the assassin. Each team's success will depend on a codemaster giving good clues and the teammates collaborating to identify the appropriate matches while avoiding unintended associations. The game includes a timer for giving clues, but teams could agree to play with or without the timer. All players will have excellent practice exercising reasoning while considering all possibilities provided that teams are cooperative, inclusive and not critical of others' thought processes.
