Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Game requires no reading and can have one to many players so is great for a broad age range of players.
  • Implicitly develops visual reasoning skills.
  • Game is well made and easily portable.

Considerations

  • Game could feel repetitive and boring to some players.
  • Could be upsetting for the player who topples the tower, especially if the student is sensitive or is playing with a competitive group.
  • Students with visual reasoning skills might need an adult to help them reason through which blocks could cause the tower to topple.

Mindprint Expert Review

The classic game of Jenga is a good option to build spatial perception and abstract reasoning skills for a broad age range. 54 well-made identical rectangular wooden blocks come in a convenient-to-carry cylindrical box. Each game requires the same set up, stacking the blocks in a tower 18 rows high. Set-up takes more time than most games, but that step can be good practice for younger students to practice their fine motor skills and grow comfortable with any frustration around stacking blocks straights. As many players as desired take turns removing one block per turn. The player who removes the block that makes the tower tumble loses the game. Students can begin to implicitly understand basic principles of physics and symmetry as they choose which block to pull. Depending on the group, this can be a fun way to develop basic visual reasoning skills.
