If your student struggles with test anxiety

How To Apply It!

  1. While every classroom test (and teacher) is different, these strategies will help you show your best work on in-class exams.Note: If you are looking strategies specifically for standardized tests start here.
  2. If you are concerned about finishing, know how to pace yourself. You will lessen anxiety about the test if you feel confident you can finish.
  3. When you get your test, write key information you needed to remember in the margins. It's allowed and a good strategy when you are feeling stressed.
  4. Don't panic if you don't know something or forget what you knew. Use this strategy if you draw a blank.
  5. Plan to show your work. It takes minimal extra time and often gets you extra points.
  6. Be prepared for the question format. Use these strategies for multiple choice, True/False and short answer. Use these strategies for essays.
  7. Check your work, regardless of how confident you are. Here are strategies based on the amount of time you have.
  8. If you're feeling anxious the night before, write about your feelings. It has calming effects and will help you sleep.
  9. Get a good night sleep. Memories consolidate while you are sleeping so you will remember better in the morning.
