Use Stronger Visual Memory to Increase Math Efficiency (ACT/SAT)

Use your stronger visual memory to memorize different types of problems so you can work more efficiently.

How To Apply It!

  1. Use practice tests to identify different types of problems and formulas that will be on the test. Create flashcards for these problem types and key formulas, so you can build comfort and automaticity for when you encounter them.
  2. Given your stronger visual memory, plan to use visual flashcards so you can "see" the information to help you memorize more efficiently.
  3. Draw a picture where relevant and color code the information on your cards. Alternatively, you might choose to use different colored cards for each problem type.
  4. Handmade flash cards are most effective for most students, but you can use digital flashcards with pictures, or any other method that you know works well for you. Whichever method you choose, repeat practice and mixing up the order of the cards are key for ensuring mastery.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

To commit information to long-term memory, students should have a clear plan of what they need to memorize and how. If their visual memory is stronger than verbal memory skills, they should include visual elements to help them study, such as pictures, drawings and color coding.
