Daily Schedule (Remote Learning)

For all students in remote learning, particularly those with weaker executive functions

Teach It!

  1. Objective: To create a daily student schedule that outlines the day's activities and can be viewed by students and parents to manage expectations and provide structure.
  2. Instruction: Help students create a manageable and routine remote learning schedule: a) Include start and end times for each activity/subject b) Include physical/stretch breaks of at least 10-15 minutes following no more than 30 minutes of direct instruction. c) Provide guidance on the environment for the task (e.g. at the computer, in a quiet place reading, interacting with a group) so parents and students can manage where they will work and not disturb siblings. d) Provide consistency from day-to-day so students know what to expect but enough variety to keep learning engaging (e.g. "specials", outdoor time, project time).
  3. Note: Finding a good schedule might take some trial-and-error. Even when you find a good schedule, you'll need to be flexible for unplanned events, technology mishaps, etc. Remind parents and students that the schedule is a guide but that everyone should feel comfortable making adjustments as needed.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

Predictable routines can helps students feel safe and secure. When students know what to expect, they will feel less anxious and more likely to follow the schedule. Sharing a schedule with parents and students can keep everyone on the same page and help manage parent expectations.
