Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Provides good mental math challenges for even the strongest math students.
  • Encourages students to focus on beating their own personal best rather than competing against others

Considerations

  • Reliance on memory and visual processing is well beyond what is expected for even strong math students
  • All of the games grow difficult very quickly, particularly Memorize which requires memorizing operators from previous problems and using them to solve current problems

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a great app to challenge strong math students to improve their mental math speed. However, students who do not enjoy math challenges, have writing, memory, or calculation weaknesses or grow frustrated or anxious easily should not use this app. The app has four games, three levels each, and all require students to solve single to multi-step math equations in their heads and write the answer on the screen. The handwriting recognition is quite good but not perfect which can cause frustration. It also prohibits a student from writing partial solutions or writing numbers right to left while solving. Although students can take as long as needed and skip problems, the timer runs on top and the speed expectations are quite high to earn stars. The app does not explain incorrect answers so students should use this app only after they have a fluency of math facts, complete understanding of order of operations, and comfort completing multi-digit calculations mentally.
