Teen Ink is a fabulous online literary magazine for teenagers to share personal writing, art, photos, opinions, and to receive and give feedback to others on their work. It is entirely free for students to submit work which is screened by site editors before it is posted. The site has many sections and thousands of posts which may overwhelm users initially. However, students can easily find work in a specific genre including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, forums, art, photography, and videos. Students can comment on each other’s work which is also subject to approval, so comments are clean, and mostly positive or constructive. The site provides a supportive environment for teenage creativity and expressions of feelings of angst and uncertainty as evidenced by an anti-bullying video. A teen made a compelling video of her bullying story and received overwhelmingly supportive feedback. Students often enjoy reading peer articles over traditional sources, so the site promotes reading as well as writing. Overall, this site does a superb job of encouraging teens to express themselves, receive feedback, and support peers.
