Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Teaches students to draw 30 popular objects in an easy-to-follow, stepwise approach.
  • Students with visual weaknesses will benefit from the tracing feature and the background graph paper which helps with proportions.
  • Students can color/paint their drawings and then email or print them from within the app.

Considerations

  • There are no instructions so the app requires some trial and error to understand the features.
  • There are only 30 pictures. Several are very basic, none are very complex, and they are mostly all animals or cars/trains/planes.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a cute, well-designed app that will teach students how to draw simple pictures like bunnies, elephants and helicopters. Although this app says it is for 5 and under, any elementary student who likes to draw can enjoy this app that requires no reading, no time constraints, and the ability to save, email or print their own creations. Students who struggle with drawing because of motor or visual weaknesses may find this app particularly useful. The drawing section shows students step-by-step how to draw 30 simple pictures, by either copying free hand what the computer does or by step-by-step tracing for students who need a little more help. The background is on graph paper to improve students' perspective on relative size of objects. After a student finishes a drawing, it can be saved and then "colored or painted" before printing or emailing. Some students may prefer to use this app with a stylus or paper and pencil where their drawing can be more precise than using the iPad.
