Mindprint Expert Review

  • The full version provides a comprehensive overview of parts of speech with examples of each.
  • The design is clean and straight-forward and the timer is tiny. The ads are distracting in the free version.
  • The presentation of quiz results enables students to easily focus on areas of difficulty.

  • Students will not enjoy this app as it is entirely rote practice.
  • App uses challenging vocabulary in both the explanations and quiz questions.
  • The explanations will be difficult for all but strong students to understand.

Mindprint Expert Review

This app provides functional practice in over 50 different types of figures of speech such as idioms, exclamations, and irony. The free version allows a student to sample some definitions and try 30 multiple choice practice questions. Parents will need to pay for all 58 pages of explanations, 300+ multiple choice questions, and to avoid the distracting ads. The explanations and quiz questions use challenging vocabulary and sentence structure, so this app will likely require parental support. The quiz answer explanations are not very helpful or instructional. The quiz summaries do provide detailed feedback on each answer which can be mailed to a parent, and students can choose to go back and review incorrect answers. Also, parents can pre-set the amount of time for the quiz and give the student instant feedback on each answer. This app is all work and no fun, but the full version has a clean design with easily viewed questions and answers. For students with good reading comprehension who want to further improve their writing or practice for standardized tests, this app could be a good choice. Students without strong skills are likely to find this app more frustrating than helpful.
