Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • App has a cute, child-friendly design that makes it feel more like a trivia game than an academic app.
  • App addresses a broad variety of academic topics in an age-appropriate way.
  • Students receive immediate feedback on each answer to learn quickly from mistakes.

Considerations

  • App does not save results/incorrect responses for later follow-up.
  • The app provides little in the form of rewards and incentives.
  • App provides correct answers but does not provide thorough explanations.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a cute app that quizzes students on basic academic knowledge but feels more like a trivia game than academic work. The app uses a sandwich theme, and students must decide whether the given statement is true or "baloney". Wrong answers lose a "pickle" and the game is over when all four pickles are gone. Up to four students can create a profile with their names and grade levels 2 through 6. In "snack" mode, students select from science, math, language arts, social studies or mystery meat and answer ten true-false questions. "Sandwich" mode is 20 or 40 random questions across categories. There is no timer in either mode, so students can spend as much time as they need to read the statements, decide on the answer, and absorb correct answers. The statements are all one to two age-appropriate sentences, and the correct answer is given immediately after an incorrect response for reinforcement. Students must wait until the end of the game for more complete explanations of "baloney" answers. The explanations are fine though not thorough and adults cannot receive a summary of results, so adults may want to be available to help students to reinforce learning. Overall, this is a fun app to review and reinforce previous learned material.
