Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • The visual presentations are clear and easy to read.
  • The rhymes make this game more fun and easy than some other word games, and the sounds can help students who need more work with sounds and spelling.
  • Students can take as long as they need to solve each puzzle.

Considerations

  • Students are encouraged to ask for help from friends on Facebook and Twitter or pay for upgrades.
  • Letters must be placed sequentially in the answer which means students may need to juggle letters in their heads.
  • Some of the phrases may be inappropriate for younger students.

Mindprint Expert Review

Brain Chain is an enjoyable guess the phrase game that is good to develop flexible thinking and will also help students with sounds and spelling. The app provides a visual presentation of two words that rhyme, and the player must type in the answer from the jumbled letters provided. For example, a brain with a chain wrapped around it is "brain chain". There is no timer, the presentation is generally simple and understandable, and users can receive help either from Facebook or Twitter friends, by using earned coins, or paying through an in-app purchase. Games like this encourage students to think flexibly and creatively since multiple words could be considered for each picture. This adaptation is a bit more child-friendly since students always know that the two words must rhyme, the game provides a limited number of letters to form the phrase, and students do not need to be familiar with figures of speech since the words do not go together except that they rhyme. Adults should still consider playing alongside children who might grow frustrated easily when they cannot figure out the phrase. Adults may also want to consider paying for the kids' version of the game which is identical except for there are no in-app purchases and the less "child-friendly" phrases and language are excluded.
